Sometimes The Little Things Mean A Lot

I went to my favorite coffee shop this morning, just like I’ve done every day for the last four years. I like it there. Everyone knows my name, and I know there’s.

Now I find out that they’ll be closing down for good at the end of the month. Because of the economy, the owners can’t make any money.

What a blow. I felt like someone punched me in the stomach. I know it might not sound like a big deal to someone else, but I really like that place and I don’t want to see it close. I guess I thought it would be there forever.

My first instinct was anger. Anger that our government bailed out the big banks that caused this recession in the first place, with their loose lending practices and their greed to make more money.

They get bailed out, but my local coffee shop fails. Doesn’t seem quite fair, does it.

Well, like my wife always tells our kids, No one every promised that life would be fair. Often times it’s not. How many times have you experienced something that just didn’t seem fair? Quite a few times, I would imagine. I know I have.

Before I got too sad about it. I reminded myself that this is just one small part of my life. The things that really matter are my family. I’m a very lucky man. I have a great family and I love them so much.

The next time we experience a set-back in life, let’s try to remember the important things in life. Instead of thinking of the things we don’t have, let’s think of the things we do have and be grateful for them.
